It’s been a while – a time of soul-searching and we have emerged deciding on a slight change of plan … hence our lovely farm at Boonah, south east Queensland is up for sale.
For those who don’t know we had been planning to set-up eco-style, minimal impact tourist accommodation here, after realising we were really not cattle farmers. Since giving the idea more thought, we have decided we would like to implement the plan in different country — not to say it would not work here, just not quite our dream, which is more beside national park etc.
So we’re on the market — 160 acres with views to everywhere and only an hour to Brisbane. Either build your special home or live here in our sustainably designed/built building. Additional second cottage for guests or tourist accom potential.
Main building has a small solar power system, composting toilet, full thermal-break insulation, north-east aspect/300 degree views of surrounding mountain ranges, slab on ground, large eves, maximum through flow ventilation/ability to control flow, as-new large combustion wood heater, high ceilings … the list goes on!
Property also has a good sized ‘Linda Woodrow’ mandala vegetable garden and has been run using organic principles for the past two years. It is the ideal blend of 2/3 excellent grazing with remainder koala forest and vine scrub, 3 good dams, 48,000L tank water, machinery shed, original timber yards. Warm in winter (above the frost line), cool in summer (breezes from everywhere).
Land is ideal for cattle fattening, but also has strong farm stay / eco-tourism potential with the new Scenic Rim Shire now placing a strong emphasis on tourism as an income for the area.
Our property is less than 10 minutes drive to Boonah, a thriving small town with three pubs, five coffee shops/cafes, two art galleries, three butchers, three fruit shops, an organic health shop, sensational new book and gift shop, as well as a variety of other speciality shops in a bustling character high street. Alongside the state primary and high schools, there is also a private primary school. Health care is also well catered for with a hospital and a number of natural practitioners.

Wow organicgirl, you must be sad to be leaving that spectacular place. Having just moved to Boonah nine months ago I love it. Will you go far afield – best of luck with the sale and your new pastures.April 22, 2010 at 10:13 pm #461270
Oh, Boonah is a lovely little town! When we were talking about leaving Brisbane, Boonah and surrounds was our first choice. Obviously the universe (and DH’s work ;)) had different plans.
Good luck with your new ventures!April 22, 2010 at 10:50 pm #461271

Have to join with others and say good luck, wont be us either. Thats a fair price to ask for very good growing land. In our case we dont have quite that much money, and want to stay near my elderly father and other relatives.
But you dont need to be cattle farmers, just agist out the paddocks which are suitable, should be enough to keep you floating, and do your stuff on a smaller patch of the best bits. You can set conditions for agistment, so that they dont trash the land with overgrazing, bottom line is that when you say cows go, they go. Thats kinda what we do, we have no sheep at present, except one ewe with lamb which got lost from the last agistment. We like to have some grazing here each year, to keep down the fire danger. But this is marginal land and delicate, as soon as they have eaten down the tops the land is emptied to recover and regenerate.April 23, 2010 at 12:24 am #461273

That is absolutely stunning. If I had the money it would be a done deal. I can’t believe you can bear to leave there to be honest but we all have to follow our dreams. Good luck selling it.
