last year He got really antsy with me for getting rid of our baby capsule and reversable car seat.. actually got really cranky with me .. i was like ok but our youngest is 4 1/2 now and we aren’t having any more, you said so too so y be so cranky? He did settle down but i think it was hard for him to let go. Also we have 2 gas bbq’s and 1 is broken and he is determind to take the broken 1 aswell, and i am wanting to offer it on freecycle 🙁 might see if it dissapears in the move 😉
anyways i am sure that something will work itself out 😆

Have my kitchen table totally covered in stuff to take town when i can get there.
Used to have a BNB in Charters Towers before moving here 5 years ago and now know i will never use all those towels and linens……………but pretty sure there are people here in the floods that can!
Also going to declutter a lot of furniture, so will see what my son would like and pass the rest on to those that need it.February 10, 2009 at 5:51 am #390223VanessaMember
Ok well I haven’t read the rest of this thread but I think I NEED to be in this one.
I do remember when the thread was posted I had, only a few days before then, got into my “spare” room and made it look a bit more like a room. This room is full of boxes from when we moved in almost two years ago. A lot of it could probably just be thrown straight into the bin and I would never miss it, but then there may just be some sort of treasures in there also 😆
Anyway I got in there and thought “boxes in the middle of the room and a path around them all is not really the best way to have these” so I got to moving boxes around and did the opposite, moved them to the outside of the room so I had an extra wall of boxes, but atleast it had a space in the middle of the room that I could use as a room.
Over the weekend I went down to Adelaide to do a Massage course and came back with (a bit of an unplanned purchase, but it was a pretty good deal) a massage table, not a problem when it is folded up but I discovered set up with space around it to move around, it is very cramped with my “box walls” And I am sure it is not very conducive to energy flow and all that sort of stuff.
So I have decided that I NEED to get in there and actually sort out whats inside the boxes and get rid of at least some of the boxes, I know there is a few things just off the top of my head that can go out to the op shops or somewhere. And thats without even looking.
So that is my aim to get my spare room tidied up and converted into a reading/sewing/extra TV/ massage room rather than a junk room, but it may take a bit more than February to get it doneFebruary 12, 2009 at 10:52 am #390224starrubyMember
I so want to be in and starting to feel motivated reading how well you are all doing. But I have such alot to to declutter!!!
We moved here 15 months ago and I still haven’t finished unpacking:shy: I keep using the excuse that I haven’t had much time off work but I know its just an excuse.
The garage has so many boxes- I go in there then turn around and go back out. Like you recyclingdiva we are both horders and have bred 3 hording teenagers as well. Plus I’ve already cluttered up our new house.
I think I’ll just start doing one box a day. It just seems to big otherwise.
Plus I’ll try to get the pantry and linen cupboards done as well. Believe me that really will be a challenge!
Keep up the great decluttering everyone – its so good to see the amount of charity thats happening as well.

Hi all! I started after we got back from holidays when I found I couldn’t keep on top of the kids clothes. I picked out some nice ones to give to a family we know who don’t have much, then passed the rest on to the clothing bin. Finally cleaned out the last of my baby things (:() and gave them away at playgroup. Then prompted by the fires, did another clean out. It’s amazing how good it makes you feel.
So then this week, I started on the kitchen – cleaned off the accumulating bench clutter, emptied out some cupboards – you don’t want to know how many “green” bags I found…. Then I started on the kids bookshelf as they got so many books for christmas I couldn’t fit them on the shelf. Next wil be the videos (as we don’t have a video player any more), then my clothes, then I aim so start on all the boxes in teh shed in storage – do we really need them?
But it is a lot to manage, so I try a bit every day and then I feel I have done something, no matter how small. I think that is the key.February 14, 2009 at 11:34 am #390226hillbilly girlMember
yep – realised i really have to have a purge before the removalists arrive week after next so am going through the drawers and chucking out anything that is ratty, doesn’t work or which is totally unsuitable for my new life (within reason, as eventually I will be back in a house). Then going through all the paper filing, finishing up accounts, contacting services for cut-off instructions and clearing out the fridge – rubbish day will be a bigun – fortunately around here as long as its in the right colour bag they will take as much or as little as you put out – hope the neighbours don’t mind stepping out on the road to get round the pile, lolFebruary 16, 2009 at 10:01 am #390227
How are we going this week? I have ‘freecycled’ a few things and we have finally got the deck clean. DH made a set of shelves to keep DS books more tidy.
I think I would like to tackle the shed this weekend – might be optimistic but all it really needs is a good tidy and a sweep to make it look fresh.
Any big challenges?February 16, 2009 at 11:08 am #390228jaymesMember
my kitchen bench :awch:February 16, 2009 at 11:47 am #390229NoodleMember
Well can’t say I’ve achieved much toward this challenge at all. My wee one started school this year and I’ve been way too busy not being busy!
I’m all giddy with freedom & possibility and want to savour the feeling for just a little bit longer.
I’ll have to knuckle down and join the real world again soon enough, but for now I need to leap with glee and do random crazy dances and sit in the sunshine and dream and and….*insert satisfying ‘ahhhhhh’ sound*……
The house can wait just a bit longer. :hug:February 17, 2009 at 10:12 am #390230
😆 Noodle. My boy started school this year, and I haven’t been busier!February 17, 2009 at 10:19 am #390231roundthebendMember

Oh dear I’ve gotten completely off track.
I did take a load to the op shop a couple of weeks ago but last week one of my days off I spent on the phones at the red cross and the other I spent on the couch feeling very very unwell. This Friday I want to go to the sustainable living festival and Sunday I’m hoping to be going up to volunteer massages for all those aching bodies up there in the bush (still waiting to hear back re this) so maybe I need an extension…….. or do you think I’m just making excuses :shy:February 18, 2009 at 4:09 am #390234Michelle-smMember
I have hit a stumbling block………..my desk!!
Although to the untrained eye it looks very neat, please don’t open any of the drawers or the cupboard!
I am working tonight and then have the rest of the week off so I am aiming to get the desk and the filing cabinet sorted out before Monday.
I still have some clothes to sort through but I have finished both pantries and am about halfway through the linen cupboard.
I took another carload to the op shop and I was very good and didn’t buy anything while I was there. YAY ME!!
I sold an unused bird aviary on ebay too so there is a bit less stuff in the back yard and I have enough money to invest in a new bread machine.:tup:February 18, 2009 at 4:41 am #390235VanessaMember
Ok tomorrow is rubbish day, So I will have to remember to the bag that I filled from my weekend efforts (even though they are pretty megre) of rubbish out and start on filling a new one. I also have to get out the back and tidy up some of the rubbish that once had a purpose sitting out there but now is just rubbish, like boxes the chooks used to use for laying in which are now just homes for spiders and other things I dont want to think of.
I did get into my spare room on the weekend and threw out a pile of paper work that I finally realised that I didnt need (uni stuff from over 7 years ago, most of which I can find the info on the net if I really need to), and I cleaned out an in/out tray but its now filled with soaps that are curing…does that count??
I probably need to go through a lot of my clothes and throw them out or to the salvos, but one thing at a time!!!
