I bought a light grey knit dress that is very plain, and I want to add some kind of embellishments to liven it up a little. Have been looking at stuff that is sewn and even crochet…but just wondered if someone had that ‘perfect’ idea that would make this dress just so much more SPECIAL and WOW!

For me, an unadorned grey knit dress doesn’t need embellishment so much as a clever accessory, like a red belt or scarf, or a beaded necklace, a chunky bangle, or a layer that peaks out from underneath. Great colours to combine with grey are red, white and black, or a soft pink or yellow (if you can wear it), or any rosy flesh tone.
Best accessory, I reckon, is a great pair of boots!June 12, 2010 at 6:29 am #467882
Can you post a pic so we can put minds to it better?June 12, 2010 at 6:45 am #467883
Buttons, lace and ribbon, just tack sew it into place and you can change it with your mood or to match a bag, belt, or shoes.June 12, 2010 at 7:12 am #467884
I agree with Edensgate. Then you can make it look different every time you wear itJune 12, 2010 at 7:39 am #467885
definently red belt!
(but a plum or darker pink would work nice too;))
matching knit/crochet cotton beret, nicely tied scarf and nice high heel boots…. or a matching chunky coloured necklace. I reckon you’d have to look a lot more WOW after any of those additions!
Edited to say: oops I should have read above properly first….have to agree with Edensgate!June 13, 2010 at 8:54 am #467886
Wow you guys are awesome! I am off to play! Hmmm, what a great excuse to get some new boots! Oooh, and do love berets and scarves! Definitely inspiration to do some knitting for winter! Off to find some funky scarf and beret patterns!June 13, 2010 at 9:17 am #467887
Go run around the opshop for scarves and accessories, dont be afraid of bright when you are gonna wear it with grey, need something with kick.June 13, 2010 at 10:47 am #467888
This looks nice, would be gorgeous in red or plum and easy enough to use the pattern to make a matching scarf!!!June 13, 2010 at 10:53 am #467889June 14, 2010 at 2:08 am #467890
I once spilled some Danish oil on my shirt and the Goddess (Scarecrow) told me it was an improvement.
Admittedly, it was one of my louder Hawaiian shirts 😀
Otherwise, I have a girlfriend (read friend who is female – not being naughty on Scarey) who wore plain dresses with a fat belt (not sure about the colour – colour blind is me) and a nice silver brooch near her neck collar.
Actually, I think the term is wide belt. 😐
Seemed to look nice and pretty without being gaudy <—hope the words sound better than they read :geek:

Well done! I so GOTTA learn to crochet past chain stitch!June 20, 2010 at 10:23 pm #467893
Its all chain stitch, just where and how you do the chains!June 21, 2010 at 1:47 am #467894
Can I beg and grovel for the pattern then??? My next CWA meeting is next week and they are such wonderful helpful ladies for us ‘young’ (ie anyone under 50) girls that dont seem to know very much about important things like crochet and the perfect sponge! Sigh…I have so much to learn!
