I bought an Avanti cookie press – it is new but it didn’t come with instructions or recipes. I used a basic butter biscuit recipe but it is obviously too stiff – I’ll just cut & bake those as usual. Does anyone use a cookie press and if so, could they let me have a copy of the recipe they use?November 18, 2009 at 4:44 am #443739
Here’s the Avanti recipe:
1 1/2 cups butter
1 cup sugar
2 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
Preheat oven to 400F. Thoroughly cream butter and sugar. Add egg, milk, vanilla and almond extract; beat well. Stir together flour and baking powder; gradually add to creamed mixture, mixing to make a smooth dough. Do not chill. Place dough into cookie press and press cookies onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400F for 6 to 8 minutes; remove cookie from sheet; cool on rack.
The first time I tried this recipe I didn’t mix thoroughly, so there were some bits of the mixture too soft. Being more vigilant the next time, the cookies were fantastic. :tup:November 19, 2009 at 6:26 am #443740
Thanks for that Learning, it is just what I was looking for and I’ll try the recipe on the weekend. One of the real advantages of ALS is that we can make calls for help on obscure things and chances are, somebody will come to rescue us from having to ‘experiment’. Thanks again I really appreciate it.November 19, 2009 at 7:37 am #443741
I’ve been looking at a few American food blogs lately and have been wondering… how on earth do I measure “cups” of butter?? Is there a weight equivalent?November 19, 2009 at 8:29 am #443742
I’m guessing about 350gms but to be sure I’ll put the butter into a measuring cup & weigh it for next time.
The Women’s Weekly recipe books say that 1 Australian cup is equal to 1.25 US & GB cups. Don’t suppose it matters that much as long as all ingredients are using the same ‘cup’ measure.November 19, 2009 at 11:10 pm #443743
An american friend said, a stick of butter,, is 250gms here. Thats around a cup.
A lot of paper covered butter, have the measurements on the side. If not, have a look at Vidal marg, in paper and you should be able to compare with butter. I know they still have the measurements on itNovember 20, 2009 at 2:30 am #443744
I just made the biscuits – they’re scrumptious. I used 325g butter and the press worked fine – I might try 250g next time as that’s what our small packets of butter weigh.
The differences in weights & sizes & measurements is a nuiseance when you are using recipes from overseas – and with the Internet we are no longer so insular in our references. A super conversion site would be lovely.
