One year I dug out some extra triffid shallots and put them on the bonfire that we were making out of fruit tree pruning. I added to the pile over several weeks while I was getting through the pruning and then left it a while after for the sticks to dry before lighting it. Some of them started to grow and looked like they were dividing before we got to light the fire. The fire was huge and I remember telling my kids that the triffids would have been burnt and killed in the fire but not to worry because we had plenty more. Well what do you know but a few weeks later I was walking past the spot where the fire had been and some had survived and started to sprout.
I honestly believe that the only thing that can kill them is rotting from too much water. I have given away more of them than I care to admit. I have given them to several school gardens so that the kids can experience gardening success no matter what.January 5, 2016 at 10:31 am #538504

I havent been on for ages maybe a year or so, Ive had lots of piglets and loads of veges, this years crop will be about 70-80 chillies from fire to habanero and jalapeno thai birds eyes, But lots of pumpkins and so far loads of tomatoes..I bought two hand grafted grosse lisse last year and i couldnt believe how much they produced between two to three kilos a day vine ripened, They where seven feet tall. This year they are still cutting the mustard. big big juicy rich meaty tomatoes, from bunnings no less. My cow calved but we lost the calf in delivery, So a mate gave me a Holstein calf a seven day old to see if I could get her to take it, Shes good and he gets a feed but I have to help.. hes four weeks old now.. She still hates him feeding off her and sometimes i will milk her out and make a load of ricotta or mozzarella.. or use it for butter or home made ice cream..im aiming at about 80 to 100 pumpkins this year.. i havent bought a pumpkin in ten years. same with eggs.. i dont want to start now. Ive a litter of piglets due and she always has 14.. and Im building a wood fired outdoor oven and a wood or charcoal kebab cooker that i saw on a Moroccan food show operated by a car battery.. Gotta love a good kebab.
