To add to what has been a truly dreadful couple of weeks we woke this morning to find that our car has been broken into on our driveway overnight. Among the stolen items was the transponder for our wonderful road toll system in Qld  . TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY WE FOUND THAT IN ORDER TO CANCEL OUR ACCOUNT WE WILL INCUR A $42 CANCELLATION FEE PLUS A $7.20 ADMIN FEE.!But if we don’t cancel it we will still be up for any cost incurred by the thief. you just can’t win! Can’t wait to get out of Qld.

What a shame. Hopefully the police will have some happy news for you. Can you transfer your account, instead of canceling it?

they are charging us for losing their #@*** transponder! Just had yet another protracted conversation with one of their representatives who was just as rude as their policy. In fact she admonished us for taking up so much of her time!Amazing!       :S :pinch:

all they would have to do, (if they really wanted to, which sound like they’re not) is get your transponder No, – next time it goes thru, get the rego of the car that used it,

or is that just too logical, and good customer relation ish

We did ask them about that but “it isn’t their function to track lost or stolen transponders.”I mean they could not have been less helpful or more downright infuriating if they tried. Nothing like private enterprise on a grand scale to f#*k over the consumer.

The ombudsman is an option but after the run around this morning and combined with the stress of this last couple of weeks we just don’t have the energy to go through the process ATM. Have calmed down a bit now and are waiting for the police to arrive to fingerprint etc. Cant even go out to get the paper as they don’t want us to touch the car until they get here in the next 24 hours.Might go back to bed

Thanks for your ears(eyes actually) all. This is a really good site.

Sorry this has happened Sue. Your conversation with this mob are frustrating to say the least. Charging you is just nasty. Phone back (if you can be bothered) and talk to another person (one in charge) and you might get a different story.

That is awful sue, and something you did not need right at the moment.

My niece had her car stolen last week and it also had her transponder in it … guess what …. no surprise, the same situation. The thief used it and she has to pay the bill. Lucky they found her car and the transponder, car is a mess though, and she still has to pay for the use of the transponder.

they really need to change something here, – or people start taking the thing out of their cars when they leave it

this is just not good enough – surely they must realise that break ins do occur

don’t they tell you to keep it in the car, – well if I one, after reading this, I would be taking the thing out

maybe get this more publicly known, or go to ombudsman – this is just ridiculous

We cancelled the account -paid the fee. We will never get another one. We never used it anyway as hubby is fiercely opposed to the whole idea of the compulsory purchase of these things. Our daughter got it for us as she used the ute for furniture transport and wouldn’t go the long way round. But we always use the non tolled roads as a matter of principle. A letter to the Courier Mail(our Qld paper) will be in order methinks. 😉
