I posted this in another tread but thought that it might be worth giving it its own thread.
As some of you might know I am involved with Transition Gawler which is a emerging Transition Town north of Adelaide, we are still in “mulling” state, but are hoping to get the “official” Transition Town status in the future.
One of the things Transition Galwer has done is to connect CORENA (Citizens Own Renewable Energy Network Australia), who were looking for small scale projects, the Gawler Community House, who wanted to install solar power to reduce their costs, but didn’t have the funds to be able to do so on their own, and a local (small scale) company, Down to Earth Sustainable Solutions, who are doing energy audits and designing the Solar PV system they require.
At the moment CORENA are relying on donations from the community to make these projects happen, the money goes to funding and installing renewable energy systems for community organisations (the next one is going to be the Solar PV system for the Gawler Community House), in the form of an interest free loan which they then pay back from the savings on their electricity bill (so they are not out of pocket, instead of paying an electricity bill they pay back the loan) and that money goes into funding the next project, which is then paid back the same, so eventually it becomes self sustaining, and they don’t need to rely on donations.
An anonymous donor has promised to donate $2000 if 2000 people donate $1 each, so far it is at 139 people. If you could afford just $1 please go to corenafund.org.au/one-dollar-challenge/ and follow the instructions, and please help to spread the word.
If you are on Facebook there is an event set up which you can join, and help spread the word https://www.facebook.com/events/737707699581135/?ref=22
