After discharging from the military a few years ago, Dan and his partner moved back to the country. Gaining a little land (1/2 acre) Dan set about trying to make it as productive as he could.. This website was part of that journey. 2007 brought on change with he and his partner having now got twin boys and moved to Melbourne to continue the journey trying to be green and save where-ever they can, using the baby steps method..

Geoff - We're attempting to turn our once barren acre into a food-forest paradise and a wonderful place to raise our three children, and we hope to live a sustainable lifestyle within it. I have a passion for organic gardening, landscaping, permaculture, building things out of stone, wood and metal and learning about the natural world. One of my goals is to put together a collection of useful plants that will form the nucleus of a food-forest nursery, something to do when I retire..

kimmysmum - Hello my name is Kimmysmum (AKA Rhonda) I live in sub-Tropical Queensland on 5 acres .1 teenage son and my partner to whom I will marry in November 2007. I have always been in simple living mode and was so glad to find ALS. My partner has taken some convincing but he now is fully supportive and we are self reliant in eggs, fertilizers and mulch and fairly well on our way to most fruit and veg but it all takes time. I also make our own bread, jams, pickled beetroot ect and also home cleaning products. Lady B - I'm Lady B - otherwise known as Barb. Bob and I live on 100 acres of paradise in the Ovens Valley in North East Victoria, 70 acres of that being eucalypt forest. At last count we had 2 British Bulldogs, 6 goldfish; 2 Isa Brown chickens, 3 Suffolk sheep and 4 Scottish Highland cattle. We love our animals! An abundance of wildlife also live here, frogs, lizards, wallabies, wombats, possums, deer, herons, ducks, grebes, finches, swallows, wrens, owls, currawongs, crows, eagles, king parrots, gang gangs, crimson rosellas - and lots more.

We grow a lot of our vegetables, when water availability permits, following a 6 year rotation system, freezing the surplus for when out of season. Our orchard was planted 4 years ago (in 2003) and when fully productive will provide us with enough fruit for eating, preserving, jam etc. and cider.

I enjoy making beer and cider, chutneys, pickles, preserves, cheese. I also bake bread, cakes and biscuits; my speciality being Welsh Cakes. If you want the recipe send me a PM.
