:@:@:@just finished watching Food Inc which was extremely sobering shed a few tears am not ashamed to say .
So to make me feel better went and harvested stuff for my garden for a lunch stir fry, patting myself on the back for being so virtuous.Didnt feel very smug for long .Up the road comes the council truck blithely spraying herbicide all over the place.my eyes and nose are stinging my lips are tingling and am so furious am not sure if I'll keep my lovely "organic" meal down.
Have just had a couple of calls to council to once again register a complaint with them ,they are seeing If I can have an exemption on my property:lol:excuse my mirth that clunking sound you hear is me banging my head against a brick wall:shrug:We keep our roadside cleared and clean to stop them having an excuse to spray us but this isnt working .
I sometimes wonder why I bother:(

kathy,

I know someone in the Sunshine Coast hinterland who does not want council or neighbours spraying near them (the husband has health problems linked to cleaning out fuel tanks in aircraft). I don't know if they went through council but they do have signage outside their property asking (in a very polite way I seem to recall) that chemicals not be sprayed near their property. If you think this might help perhaps you could word the sign to suggest that you have a 'petro chemical intolerance' - that would still be truthful!!!

Kathy thats no good, we have the same with the electricity boys wanting to clear/poison everything under the power lines but we clear anything that gets near the power lines one neighbour lost a garden full of small growing grevilleas Robyn Gordon and Ned Kelly and the like.
Council spraying well we've never seen them blithely spraying herbicide only see them come and spray small patches of mother of millions.

Had a rude awakening this morning at 7:15 ,normally I'm up but watched some tennis til the wee small hours and its cloudy and cool so hence was still asleep.banging on my back door so rushed out in pjs to find the weed control officer at my door.
Told me that they would be spraying regardless ,I showed him my back ,I'm not my normal sunny self when wakened abruptly:@
Rang the council who gave him a rev for no prior warning of his visit and when i asked them if i would suffer repercussions for my complaints was told he couldn't guarantee anything .So i guess its a bit like complaining about your food in a restaurant, not smart they just might spit in your food .Dare say i will probably get an extra squirt of poison in my direction every time they come by .
I have taken on bigger and better councils and won .I'm too pigheaded to give up without a fight so if thats what they want bring it on:awch:They are sending me their MSDS which I requested on the product they use so will be doing a little research of my own .I love local councils predictable fallback of blaming the state government and they are just the poor meat in the sandwich .Have heard this excuse used many times on other issues .In some cases it doesnt float when you do the research .Fight them at their own game .Baffle them with science and quote acts of government .

OMG

What exactly do they want to spray for? Is your place a hotbed of disastrous enviornmentally unfriendly plants? Fight them. I would hate for that to happen to me. I am really feeling for you.

Kathy,

This link might be useful ... it names the legislation (acts) that are relevant to your area, and also names one body who seems to be responsible for taking spray drift complaints and following them up.

Hope this helps.

many thanks Ma ,such a wealth of knowledge in this little community of ALS .have always believed you can be the difference you need in the world ,will never believe its not viable to stand up for what you believe in .
With all the research i did yesterday on rat grass problems up here have decided to suggest alternatives as it is such a big problem .We dont even have a catchment group and as the seed is spread a lot by water and flooding which occurs here quite a few times a year thought i might look into how to form such a group to see if we can work together.
Council also appears to be using the least effective and cheapest way of dealing with the problem .They may even be totally wasting time and money with the methods they are using.
Hubby was a bit upset that they think I am lying about the way the guys spray here .They told the boss man they only target sprayed one plant in my vicinity,I saw them driving along blanket spraying everything .Now he wants to buy a video camera as he has seen them do the same thing .Without proof its a He said She said situation .

You just know who they will believe don't you, video is the only way that you will be listened to.
I hope you can get something done about the spraying.

Be careful with video taping, though. I had problems with a public housing neighour once cutting off my plants and throwing them back over the 6ft dividing paling fence. The housing department suggested filming them as proof but to make it look like you weren't actually filming them as you need to have permission from the person you are filming. They suggested aiming the camera in the general direction ie: the front gate and then you could 'argue' you were using it as a 'security device' as you suspected you had 'intruders' or 'trespassers'. And the fact that I caught the neigbour 'in the act' of damaging my property was just 'coincidental'.

Good luck.
