There is really only the three main parts - panels, inverter and meter. There are also a couple of isolators (switches) and the cabling but not much else. (for a grid connected system...)

Back in the 80's I had a block down the Mornington Peninsula just inland from Mornington. I couldn't get tradies to make the trip down there qand it was only 10 minutes from Frankston.

Hopefully you'll find a company that provide what you want (including all the information you need about what you're buying). It took us almost 2 years to weed through all the rubbish down here until we found someone who knew his stuff, had reasonable prices, and was prepared to travel and stay on the job until it was done!

Airgead, I'm not sure what smart meters are where you are but the ones they are installing throughout Victoria uses low power radio frequency transmitters to communicate meter readings via WI-FI, according to Sp Ausnet who own our power lines. They DO transmit signals! You seem so overly sure there is nothing negative about them at all, I wonder if you have a personal interest in them?

No.. no interest (other than an interest in helping people with solar)...

Not sure about Vic... most of my experience is in NSW and QLD. if Vic is using smart meters with a wireless connection then yes, they do emit some signals. The signals are way smaller than a regular wireless router and only send a few times per day. Still perfectly safe.

There has never been a scientific study showing any effect from low power EMR. You get way more EMR from the wiring in your walls than from a smart meter.

Karyn, make sure you check out Whirlpool to ask (or search) about the panels and inverters they're offering :) The people there can also tell you if the pricing is good.

Thanks Bron,I'll go back there for another look, there is a lot of stuff to search through.

Though I did find some of it was dated 2 years ago.

Snoopy I think it depends on if the companies want the work or not as to how far they will travel, due to living out of the main large town, people in small towns used to be charged a per klm rate usually 40c.Dont know if this still happens but it ussed to.

So we will take our time I guess so we get it right the first time.

Well I've rung another co in town and I'm still waiting for them to call back.

Yesterday the first co who bothered to come out to actually see us rang yesterday for an update on where we were re- the solar power.

I told him we were still getting quotes.

So yesterday later on we had a chat about the solar and we agreed to call the first guy back today and see if we can do a deal re-the quote,he took a few dollars off which was good.

Though now the co are having a Dec promo and if we have 19 smaller panels on instead of 13 larger ones we can get a free split system aircon.
We're still working on that one.
Anyway, he's coming out for us to sign up TODAY!!

I'm not excited I must say, I'm just calm and collected, and just expect a good job to be done with no BS and for the thing to work as it's meant to.

Well the solar panels were installed yesterday, all 23 of them!!

They only took half a day to get it all done that included the installation of the free split system.

So now we are Power Rangers LOL

Just need to learn how to read it .

23 panels? Wow! So you must have around about a 4.5kW system then?

sorry to mislead you Steve, there are only 22 panels, counted them again today.

The system is a 3kw-135W 20V Poly,steel.
22x 135 poly crystalline panels.
We were having 19 panels ,larger ones but they werent available till Jan'12 so we went for the smaller ones hence 22 panels.

We didnt want to wait for the others to be available, and it's working a treat.

3kW will still make a BIG difference to your bill. I have 1.5kW but want to upgrade to 3kW. I already have the inverter, just need the panels...

The G/Son has come for the weekend and we showed him the panels and told him it makes electricity for us now.

He asked if it worked in the night? We said no,so we have to sit around with candles and read or play games cause the TV wont work.
He was a bit sad about that.

We let in on the joke, he was happy to play x box even if I said only for 5 mins, and with the ALS site being a bit slow I kept telling him he had to turn it off cause I didnt have enough power!! LOL

Oh nans a teaser.
