I only ever got one wisdom tooth and I was in my thirties when it pushed it's way through.

My DIL had hers removed due to severe pain in her jaw. I can't remember what the explanation was for the pain but losing the teeth fixed it.

I had mine out, as them come through dead.. and rotted... was bloody terrible.. Sams roots were growing side ways, hence thats why she had hers out.. My mum's wisdom teeth roots, started growing around the other teeths roots.. she had to get hers cut in quarters and pulled out peice by peice.

Ouch. They are all good reasons to get rid of your wisdom teeth Dan.

I had teeth out out years ago, as contrary to what some say I have a small mouth and with the teeth I had there was no room for my wisdom teeth, so I still have mine I hope I never have to have them out as they have curved roots.

Humbug - hope it's nothing to do with wisdom because I think I only had one. It came through but because I was unable to reach it with a toothbrush they pulled it out - 2 seconds, not much pain at all. I've not got any eye teeth either, so wonder if that means that I'm seeing without any eyes?

I don't have any wisdom teeth either, not even in my gums. I also have a very small "cramped" jaw according to my last dentist so no doubt evolution got it right for me :) I also lack an eye tooth Herbman... one that I have never had. My eldest daughter (nearly 6 yrs old and yet to loose any baby teeth) also lacks that same canine tooth! I realise that teeth are very much a genetic trait but I was surprised to see even in her baby teeth that she doesn't have it. My youngest daughter has all of the correct teeth.

i believe they're called wisdom teeth cos you tend to have them trying to come thru when you're an adult. :) my 4 were removed, cos they were laying down, and my hard palate flattened out and my once buck teeth straightened out  i've got a fabulous bite now :D

Re: treatment of bruising
My daughter fell and gave herself a full-on googy-egg right on her forehead. The bruise came out immediately (and I'm told that if that happens there is rarely anything to worry about, head injury-wise, I mean). Anyhow, my friend had this amazing product called Magna-bloc which she keeps in a case in her car. They were just magnets in the shape of a disk as far as I could work out just by looking at them.

To be honest, I was sceptical, but I let her put a sticky patch on the magnet and stick it right on my daughter's bump. She wore it that way (and it didn't bother her at all) for a few hours until it fell off. In that time, the bump receded almost back to normal. Two days later the bruise had come out in lovely shades of green and purple EXCEPT for the circle where the magnet had been!! It seems pretty obvious that the magnets work, but I can't for the life of me understand how or why.

Anyhow, just thought I'd share. My friend claims the magnets are a bit expensive, around $50 each, but they are totally natural and reusable. I just did a google search and found this:

Not meaning to spam but I'm convinced that they work!

Those magnets sound interesting, Jodie.... I have some friends swear by magnetic therapy and a vet friend who makes magnetic implanted horse and dog rugs, shin boots etc.

Back to wisdom teeth, my two youngest have been told they will need their wisdom teeth out one day as they are also growing either sideways or at otherwise awkward angles and will create problems trying to come through.

Dan, that all sounds AWFUL!
Judi B..... "as contrary to what some say I have a small mouth "

Deborah, I have no wisdom teeth in my gums either, apparently. Hopefully we can gain some wisdom without 'em!

What did people do in olden days with small mouths or strangely growing teeth? It seems everyone I know has been told at some point they have to have teeth out because there isn't room or something similar. I feel sorry for anyone who has pain though as the wisdom teeth are usually deeprooted.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone for the advice -I got arnica and comfrey ointment. I was told the arnica is better on the bruises and the comfrey for the swelling and sore muscles(apparently comfrey induces healing very quickly and the rest of the advice i've forgotten:p.) I can already see the bruising go down - the bruise on my foot has shrunk by more than an inch and on my thigh it is now almost the size of my palm instead of a good inch bigger all around. The soreness feels better too. I am amazed at how well it is working so THANKYOU all!
