Okay, my bulk stock of deoderant is starting to run low and I would love to make something with natural ingredients.

Is anyone here making deoderant?

If not, I guess, I can always go and buy the crystal powder (the stick doesn't work for me)..... though that would mean yet another transgression in my quest to not buy anything brand new, so I would really prefer not to do it.

Hi Eilleen

I get my deoderant from lush, but looking at the packaging I was going to try my own from a mixture of bees wax, oil and bi carb.

I use bicarb soda brushed on with an old makeup brush and my husband uses witch hazel in an old roll on deodorant bottle. Although they both work without it I add a few drops of lavender essential oil to mine and some lavender and tea tree oils to his.

Works well for us.

I just use plain bi-carb. It's stored in an old plastic tub, the really small ones you might use for baby food and I dab it on with a cotton wool ball.
Since switching to it, I can wear t-shirts for 3 days instead of having clean clothes everyday! My 11yo DD also uses it and likes it better than her old roll on.

I'm into the bicarb too - the white powder with a hundred uses. :)

Hi Eilleen,
I am in the minority as the Bi-carb irritates me, so when my current roll-on runs out I will be trying the following recipe:

1/4 cup witch hazel
1/4 cup aloe vera gel
1/4 cup mineral water
1 tsp vegetable glycerin
few drops tea tree oil

I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds nice! I have very sensitive skin so the aloe gel in it is attractive for me.

Has anyone use bi-carb as a foot powder I get camomile flowers in the pestle and mortar and grind it add the same amount of bicard and its the best foot destinker. My hubby wears work boots every day and boy did they wreek until he started to use the foot powder. Also at the end of the day sprinkle the foot powder into your boots.

Neisha my BIL had very smelly feet until he started using bi-carb as a foot powder too. He also sprinkles bi-carb into his shoes when he takes them off. The camomile flowers would be a lovely additive, I would think.

I sprinkle bi-carb into our joggers after they've been worn to freshen them too.

Thanks Humbug  Half my problem is though that I get bi-carb all over me and the floor, no matter how careful I am, and I don't like making extra work for myself cleaning it up :|

Please proceed with caution with some 'natural' remedies. Both the crystal deodorant and the bi-carb contain aluminium... that is why they work and that is precisely what we are trying to avoid!!

Rub on a slice of lemon for the most natural alternative and some brands of organic deodorant work well but again, read the label carefull as there may be more than just aluminium lurking (although that is enough as it has been linked to altzheimer's and possibly breast cancer!!

Hope that helps!
