Sustainable animal production
Hi, In answer to the question of animals. We run our property as a wildlife sanctuary with a special emphasis on wombats, rescue, care and rehabilitation. This has created its own problems in keeping animals confined and also in keeping Wallabies out of the garden. That is wombats burrow under fences, they themselves are not a problem but their holes under the fences allow entry to wallabies, and rabbits. However we do keep chooks successfully. We have at times also kept pigs, goats, ducks, and geese. The goats we found to be more of a problem than they were worth, However for the meat eaters, goat is a truly delicious meat. The goats were well worth the effort and we keep promicing ourselves to keep more of them . Our problem with poultry has always been foxes and being able to keep the poultry locked up at night. This has proved more difficult with ducks and geese that with chooks but we do think we will try them again.
